Apple Picking Day

It's always been on my fall bucket list to go apple picking so this year I made sure to do it and I think we have to go back every year now.  Last Monday we headed out to Oak Glen California and made a day of it and it was seriously the best.  Just getting out of LA and into the mountains was so good for the soul.  I loved seeing some fall weather and Capri thought it was the best thing ever roaming free on a ranch filled with orchards and wide-open spaces.  We went to Parrish Pioneer Ranch where they have a restaurant and gift shop where you can buy the freshest apple cider, apple beer, and everything else in between.  After picking all the apples that could possibly fit into our bags, we ate at the charming place in Hawkshead Publick House that is like going back in time with wax candles in lanterns lighting up the tables and drinks served in stainless steel mugs and all the food was amazingly fresh because they grow all the ingredients right there on their farm.  The pioneer dressed server even brought the bill out with a feather pen.  So after our delicious lunch of pear walnut salad, clam chowder, and chicken pot pie we went to a couple other ranches in the area where we had fresh apple cider donuts too and some incredible apple crisp.  Ya this pretty much became a food tour, but can you blame us?!  It was all the best tastes of fall wrapped up in one day.  I came home and couldn't wait to make some fresh recipes with all the apples we picked, so I found a salted caramel apple crisp recipe that I whipped up that is incredible!  It will be on the blog tomorrow so be sure and check back because you will not want to miss it.
