Chocolate-Dipped Frozen Bananas
One of our favorite summertime treats is when we go down to Newport and take the ferry over to the most charming Balboa Island for a chocolate dipped frozen banana. It's my favorite little neighborhood to walk around and it just doesn't feel like a complete trip to Newport without one. Chocolate and bananas make the best combo and it's a perfect quick and easy summertime dessert to make. You can use any kind of topping you want, the options are endless. I'd love to see your creations of these summertime staples so be sure to tag me on Instagram. Enjoy!!
| INGREDIENTS |
ripe bananas
candy dipping sticks
24 ounces milk chocolate [we use Guittard]
variety of toppings [sprinkles, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, chopped toffee bits]
| DIRECTIONS |
Peel the bananas and cut them in half so they aren't so long. Insert the sticks into the end of the banana until they are secure. Place the bananas onto a cookie sheet lined with wax or parchment paper and put them in the freezer for about an hour or until they are firm.
Put the chopped chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between until it's completely melted and smooth. Get your toppings ready by placing them into shallow bowls and laying out in an easy accessible space on your countertop. Once the chocolate is melted and the toppings are ready, then remove the bananas from the freezer.
Now you are ready to dip. Start with one banana at a time and place the banana over the bowl of melted chocolate, using a large spoon or ladle, pour the chocolate over the banana until you have covered it completely. You will have to rotate the banana around for this and use the spoon to help spread it. Once the banana is covered, then pick your topping and hold the banana over that topping bowl while sprinkling the banana with it, letting any excess fall back into the bowl. After sprinkling the desired topping, then place the banana back on the cookie sheet. Keep dipping and sprinkling your bananas until they are all ready, but work quickly with the chocolate because it will start to harden once touching the cold banana. You can eat these right away or save them for later in an air-tight container in the freezer, just let them sit out to thaw for about ten minutes before serving. Enjoy this delicious treat!
